Important Update to California Licensing Requirements
The California Department of Insurance has updated the qualifications required to sit for the insurance licensing exam. Candidates are now required to complete 12 hours of approved study on ethics and the California Insurance Code, including 1 hour dedicated to insurance fraud. This is the requirement needed to be eligible to take the state licensing exam.
However
This change does not make the licensing exam easier. The state exam still covers policy concepts, coverages, definitions, and real-world scenarios, not just ethics and the Insurance Code.
Education Still Matters
Completing only the 12 required hours might get you in the door, but it does not guarantee you’ll be ready to pass. Proper preparation remains critical to understanding the full breadth of insurance.
